From founder Myron Myers: My best mentors were Elizabth Fleming, soprano, London (1926-2015) and Elisabeth Kallina, actor, Vienna (1910-2004). The former conveyed the ancient and vaunted vocal technique of Bel Canto derived by lineage from famous 19th century castrato Velluti, through Francesco Lamperti and Joseph Hislop; the latter, the art of living inside the poetry and libretti, as she did on the stage in major roles at the Burgtheater in Vienna for more than 30 years. The wisdom imparted by them forms the basis of this class: traditional vocal technique and musical expression based on the acting of text conjoined to serve our beloved musical heritage, along with additions of current and relevant scientific information.

This website owes its excellence to the work of many talented people. Nichole Eddy, who designed the first website, is responsible for the color palette and the typography. Rebekkah Hilgraves, RadHaus.com, expanded the website, added further pages with photographs, recordings, biographical information and performance lists. Louie Kaczmarek, Visual Digital Agency, refined the message, honed the information and schooled me in brevity. All three of these wonderful people are my students, past and present. Huge thanks.
The Music of the Baroque performances were recorded by Richard Mintel, who did superb work. His wife, Judy, opened the digital archive so that I could retrieve portions of my performances. The entire catalogue of Richard and Judy’s work for Music of the Baroque under Tom Wikman’s direction is now in the National Archive.
The excerpts of my singing required transfer from tape in many cases. The Brahms Four Serious Songs were transferred from performance tape to CD, but the CD was faulty. I have Gene Nemirovsky at WFMT-FM to thank profusely for restoring the quality of the recording. Likewise, the CD made from the original WFMT broadcast tape of Schubert’s Winterreise was cut into two CDs, interrupting a song. Louie Kaczmarek put the pieces together admirably.
Voices of Summer’s board of directors has been excellent in helping me view this course from many other perspectives. They are, by and large, people who grew up on the internet, as I did not, so their input has been invaluable. The board is: Cynthia Mace, Louie Kaczmarek, Nichole (and Erin) Eddy, Eric Sengson and Liz Myers.
